State Resource Centre (SRC) has been established in the year 1977 and it is an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India being managed by a Governing Body constituted and approved by Govt. of India. The Director General, National Literacy Mission and Joint Secretary, MHRD and Director, Adult Education, MHRD, Govt. of India, Secretary, School Education and Director, Non-formal and Adult Education, Govt. of Tamil Nadu besides representatives from the parent body namely Tamil Nadu Board of Continuing Education (TNBCE), Universities, NGOs, Corporate Sector, eminent educationists are the members of the Governing Body. Thus SRC, Chennai is functioning under the aegis of  Tamil Nadu Board of Continuing Education has jurisdiction over the state of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry(UT).

The major focus of the State Resource Centre, Chennai is  extending academic and technical support to the adult and continuing education in general and acting as a nodal agency for developing materials and training functionaries in the areas of literacy, post literacy and continuing education in particular.
